EN 13084-7: Performance assessment of free-standing chimneys

DEKRA's certification service carries out an assessment of the factory and its internal quality control (FPC) and issues a certificate of compliance with the requirements of the internal quality control of production. EN 13084-7 is a harmonised standard (hEN) and refers to EN 1090-2 for welding, as does EN 1090-1. The certificate enables the company to draw up a declaration of performance and affix the CE marking to the product.

Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and CE marking

The Regulation (305/2011) adopted by the European Parliament and the Council requires CE marking when a product falls within the scope of a harmonised standard. The harmonised standard EN 13084-7 covers free-standing single-wall chimneys and their flues. These products must be CE marked when they are placed on the market in Finland or in EU countries.
The essential characteristics of construction products must be CE marked if there is a European harmonised product standard for the construction product and if the transitional period for the standard in question has expired. The transitional period for EN 13084-7 expired on 1.9.2013.
The right to affix the CE marking according to EN 13084-7 is subject to the approval and surveillance of the factory and the internal quality control system by a notified body.

The certificate of the factory internal quality control system requires:

  • The company has an operational, written description of the factory production control (FPC) in accordance with EN 13084-7.
  • The company has implemented an FPC system
  • The notified body has assessed the performance of the company's factory and FPC system against the requirements of EN 13084-7, also taking into account the requirements of SFS-EN 1090-2 where applicable.
Before placing a product on the market, the company must draw up a Declaration of Performance (DoP) and affix the Ce marking to the product. "The CE marking must be affixed to the construction product or to the label attached to it in a visible, legible and indelible manner. Where this is not possible or justified by the nature of the product, it shall be affixed to the packaging or accompanying documents." (CPR Article 9)

EN 1090-2 voluntary product certification
Voluntary product certification is for companies that only provide a service, for example for a CE-marked product. In this case, the company does not own the product (and therefore cannot, of course, affix the CE marking to the product).
