Materials Laboratory and Destructive Testing

Comprehensive testing methods for verifying material properties and quality

Materials & Lab testing provides accurate and reliable information for manufacturers on the properties of the components and materials or substances they are using or producing. In many cases, testing is also used to confirm that the materials properties are consistent with the documentation and can be safely used in engineering applications or supplied onward to end users.

Our accredited laboratory offers comprehensive testing and inspection services that allow you to verify the performance, quality, and safety of your products under various operating and environmental conditions. Our services cover both destructive testing (DT) and non-destructive testing (NDT), providing accurate and reliable information on the properties of components and materials.
Our laboratory tests help ensure that materials meet technical requirements and the properties specified in documentation. At the same time, we ensure that the materials are safe for use both in production processes and in products delivered to end users.
We offer independent, impartial, and expert testing and inspection services for process trials involving various production methods.

Full-service Accredited Materials Laboratories

Our accredited (FINAS Accreditation Service) testing laboratories are equipped with modern testing equipment, our own high-performance machine shops for sample preparation, and an NDT inspection unit. Thanks to this comprehensive setup, we can deliver results quickly and reliably. Our two laboratories in Finland ensure high delivery reliability.
The quality of our testing is based on strong expertise, standards-compliant methods, and modern, high-quality equipment. By continuously investing in new technology, we ensure that we produce accurate and reliable test data. Combined with our customer-focused and expert service, this makes us a reliable testing partner for all stages of quality assurance.
Since 2004, DEKRA has been developing a global laboratory infrastructure and service network within our industrial inspection division to support our customers and industrial operations, including in Finland.

Services and FINAS Accreditation
Our laboratory is testing laboratory T220, accredited by the FINAS Accreditation Service in accordance with the SFS-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
Our accredited testing services include:

  • Macro- and microstructural studies of welds
  • Elemental analysis using a portable OES spectrometer
  • Tensile test ASTM E8
  • Heat tensile test / tensile test at elevated temperature (accredited by the Oulu laboratory)
  • Impact test ASTM E23 (accredited at the Naantali laboratory)

Other methods included in our services (not accredited):

Tire expansion tests, surface roughness measurement, product load tests, weld fracture tests, ferrite measurements (metallurgical and ferritoscope), grain size determination, Brinell hardness (including method)

Two materials laboratories in Finland ensure reliable and rapid testing

DEKRA’s materials laboratories are located in Naantali and Oulu, enabling flexible service and high delivery reliability for customers throughout Finland.
Our laboratories have extensive experience and a high-quality, customer-focused testing process. We operate our own efficient machine shops on-site to manufacture test bars and samples. We also perform NDT inspections on the parts you supply on-site.
In addition, our Oulu laboratory works closely with the University of Oulu. The university has strong expertise in the fields of metals and materials research. Together with the University of Oulu, we form a significant combination of expertise and equipment infrastructure, which enables us to produce accurate and reliable test results.
Who is the drug test intended for?

Test material options, compare alternatives, and accelerate product development with reliable data.

Quality Assurance and QC

Make sure that the welding and materials meet the standards and requirements.

Construction and infrastructure companies

Ensure the durability of welds and materials in demanding and long-lasting applications.

Energy, Process, and Industrial Facilities

Ensure the durability of materials and components in demanding environments and safety in critical applications.

Regulatory and compliance audits

You need test results from an impartial and independent laboratory.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a fracture toughness test?
Destructive testing is a method of examining materials, also known as destructive testing, mechanical testing, and destructive testing (DT). In this method, the material is subjected to stress until its properties, performance, or breaking point are reached. Testing provides accurate information about the material’s durability, strength, and suitability for its intended use.
